Board of Directors

John Begeman

Executive Chairman

Mr. Begeman is a Professional Mining Engineer with over 35 years of mining experience. He Is currently the Executive Chairman of the Board of Premier Gold Mines Limited and sits on the boards of directors of Yamana Gold Inc. and African Gold Group Inc. He has served on the board of Premier Gold Mines Limited since the company’s inception in 2006 and became its Chairman in 2015. He has previously served as the President and Chief Executive Officer of Avion Gold Corporation from 2008 to 2012, as the President and Chief Executive Officer and director of Valencia Ventures Ltd. from 2008 to 2010, as the Chief Operating Officer of Zinifex Canada Inc. from 2006 to 2008 and as Vice President, Western Operations of Goldcorp from 2000 to 2006. In his capacity for Goldcorp, he was responsible for its surface gold operations in South Dakota and the Industrial Minerals Division in Saskatchewan. Previous to his employment at Goldcorp, Mr. Begeman held various engineering and management positions with Morrison Knudsen Company in the contract mining operations group throughout the Western United States. Mr. Begeman holds a B.Sc. in Mining Engineering, a M.S. in Engineering Management and a Masters of Business Administration degree.

Ewan Downie

President & Chief Executive Officer

Mr. Downie has been President & CEO of Premier since its inception in 2006. He has been working in the mineral exploration and mining industry for more than 25 years, was the founder of Premier’s predecessor, Wolfden Resources Inc., and has participated in several gold and base metal discoveries. Awards include the 2003 recipient of the Prospectors and Developers Association of Canada’s Bill Dennis Prospector Of The Year and several Exploration and Development acknowledgements from the Northwestern Ontario Prospectors Association.

Mike Vitton


Mr. Vitton is former Executive Managing Director, Head, US Equity Sales, Bank of Montreal Capital Markets (BMO Capital Markets). As BMO’s Head of US Equity Sales, he originated and placed more than USD $200 billion through public and secondary offerings and M&A transactions until his departure from BMO in 2009. Prior to BMO, Mike was engaged as Managing Director at Burns Fry Ltd., between June 1984 and June 1994.

Mr. Vitton, through Burns Fry Ltd. and BMO Capital Markets, has acted as seed investor, lead/co-lead underwriter or in a M&A capacity in some of the most important deals in the metal resource sector.

Mike was also the co-founder and former director of MMX Mineracao e Metalicos SA (Brazil) and LLX Logistica SA (Brazil). MMX sold Minas Rio and Amapa assets to Anglo American Corporation for USD $5.5 billion in cash in December 2008, returning USD $8.8 billion in cash or stock distributions to MMX IPO shareholders, offering six times return from IPO after only two years. Additionally, he was co-founder of Petro Rio, a publicly traded Brazilian oil and gas company and Manabi SA, a private Brazilian iron ore company.

Recently, Mr. Vitton acted as seed investor and capital markets advisor from inception to Newmarket Gold, sold to Kirkland Lake for CAD $1 billion, combining to form a CAD $2.4 billion company. He serves as capital markets advisor to ASX Gold Road Resources, previously raising AUD $57 million of AUD $74 million in a back stopped rights issue, prior to Goldfields 50% joint venture participation of AUD $350 million, cited as Australian 2017 Deal of the Year. Mike is a founding partner of M2-Advisors and Partner and member of P5 Infrastructure, operating in partnership with EQT Infrastructure/CMA CGM, where EQT Infrastructure/P5 Infrastructure acquired 90% of Global Gateway South(GGS) Terminal, a deep sea terminal in Long Beach Harbor, CA.

Tony Makuch


Anthony (Tony) Makuch is currently President & CEO of Kirkland Lake Gold Inc and holds a Bachelor of Science Degree (Honours Applied Earth Sciences) from the University of Waterloo in Ontario, and both a Masters of Science Degree in Engineering and a Masters of Business Administration from Queen´s University in Ontario. Tony is also a graduate of the Institute of Corporate Directors and has his ICD.D designation. He is a professional engineer (Ontario) with over 35 years of management, operations and technical experience in the mining industry, having managed numerous projects in Canada and the United States from advanced exploration through production.

Prior to joining Kirkland Lake Gold, Mr. Makuch was President and CEO at Lake Shore Gold Inc., from 2008 until its acquisition by Tahoe Resources on April 1, 2016, where he became the Executive Vice-President and President of Canadian Operations. Between January 2006 and March 1, 2008, Mr. Makuch was Senior Vice President and Chief Operating Officer for FNX Mining Company Inc. From 1998 to December 2005 he held progressively senior positions with Dynatec Corporation, including VP, Operations. From 1992 to 1998, Mr. Makuch worked with Kinross Gold Corporation at a number of their North American operations; which included his role as General Manager of the Kirkland Lake Operations at the Macassa Mine and Timmins Operations - Hoyle Pond Mine.

John Seaman, ICD.D

Lead Director

John Seaman was the Chief Financial Officer of Premier Gold Mines from August 2006 to June 2012 and Chief Financial Officer of Wolfden Resources Inc. from October 2002 to May 2007.

John has been a director and/or officer of various small-cap public companies and is currently President and CEO of a large private security company.

Claude Lemasson, ICD.D


Mr. Lemasson is a Senior Mining Executive with over 30 years of experience in mining construction and operations within Canada, the United States and South America. He is a bilingual Professional Engineer and a graduate of the Kellogg-Schulich Executive MBA program. Throughout his career, Mr. Lemasson has been responsible for multiple aspects of both open-pit and underground gold mining projects, from advanced exploration, through development, to production and full operations.

Since April 2016, he is the President & CEO, and a Director, of Eastmain Resources Inc., an exploration company advancing 3 key gold projects in James Bay, Northern Quebec. Other than all technical aspects, he is also directly involved in marketing, investor relations, capital markets and financing.

From 2009 to 2012, Mr. Lemasson served as President, Chief Operating Officer and Director of Guyana Goldfields.

From 2000 to 2009, Mr. Lemasson was an Executive with Goldcorp, where, as the Mine General Manager at Goldcorp’s Red Lake operations, he was largely responsible for production growth to 600,000 ounces per year through the development of the mine’s high-grade zone. He then became the General Manager of Projects for Canada and the United States, and was specifically responsible for the Éléonore Project, located in James Bay, Northern Quebec.

Prior to Goldcorp, Mr. Lemasson was a Project Construction Manager with Merit Consultants International, where he oversaw engineering, construction and commissioning of various projects, including Goldcorp’s Red Lake Mine in Northern Ontario.

Ron Little, ICD.D


Mr. Little is an engineer, geologist and entrepreneur who has developed mining projects in Canada, South America and Africa. He was the founder and CEO of Orezone Resources and Orezone Gold Corp. for over 20 years and built one of the most successful exploration and mine development track records in Burkina Faso. He is and has been a director and advisor to other public companies and not for profit entities. Mr. Little is a Professional Engineer and holds a Bachelor of Science in Engineering (Geological) from Queen’s University in Kingston (1985) and is also a designated graduate of the Institute of Corporate Directors (ICD.D). Ron is currently the President & CEO of Wolfden Resources.

Steve Filipovic, CPA, CA

Chief Financial Officer

Steve Filipovic is a Chartered Professional Accountant with over 18 years of experience in financial management and reporting, M&A, and international risk management, taxation and structuring. He was appointed Chief Financial Officer in 2012, prior to which he held senior finance and director roles with several listed mining companies including Zinifex and Premier’s predecessor Wolfden Resources Inc. Steve received his Honours Bachelor of Commerce degree from Lakehead University and practiced as an Audit Manager with Ernst & Young LLP in their Oil and Gas group prior to entering the mining sector.

Stephen McGibbon, P.Geo.

Executive Vice-President, Corporate & Project Development

Stephen McGibbon is a Professional Geologist with extensive exploration, mine production and senior management experience. He graduated from Queen’s University at Kingston, in 1983 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Geological Sciences. From 1994 until 2006, Stephen served as both Chief Geologist and Exploration Manager for Goldcorp Inc., at its flagship Red Lake Mine operation.

Stephen was a senior member of the team that discovered the “High Grade Zone”, one of the most important gold discoveries of the last 20 years. In his capacity as Chief Geologist and Exploration Manager, Stephen lead a talented team of geologists that helped transform the marginal, high-cost operation into an unparalleled and historic mining success.

Stephen has established a very successful track record at Premier Gold Mines Limited since 2006 that includes revitalizing the historic Geraldton mining camp with a new discovery that today exceeds 7 million ounces of gold. Premier has enjoyed a nearly ten-fold increase in its market capitalization as a result.

Brent Kristof, P.Eng.

Senior Vice-President, Operations

Brent brings to Premier 35 years of progressive leadership and management of underground and surface mining operations that include an accomplished record in engineering, maintenance, geology, processing, projects and business improvement that will prove valuable for company stakeholders. Most recently, Brent served as Chief Operating Officer at Klondex Mines Ltd. Prior to his role at Klondex, Brent’s broad Nevada operational experience included eight years as General Manager at several Barrick mines (including the Turquoise Ridge Mine) and seven years leading operations teams at Newmont’s Midas and Deep Post mines in Carlin, Nevada.

Brent’s primary responsibility will include overseeing the Company’s Mercedes and South Arturo mines as well as participating in the development plans for Premier’s advanced projects including McCoy-Cove and Hardrock.

Kerri Chaboyer-Jean, CPA, CA

Vice-President, Finance

Kerri Chaboyer-Jean is a Chartered Professional Accountant with over 20 years of experience as a finance professional in public practice, manufacturing and mining operations and as a business systems consultant. She has experience in the areas of financial and operational reporting, International Financial Reporting Standards, business process reengineering, ERP system implementations and internal controls.

Kerri started her career with Premier in 2012 as the Corporate Controller having previously held the position of Director of Financial Reporting at San Gold Corporation in Canada. Prior to that, Kerri spent several years in finance roles in the pulp and paper industry and as a senior financial consultant involved in full scale ERP system implementations for small mining and manufacturing companies in Canada and the United States. She received her Honours Bachelor of Commerce degree from Lakehead University and practiced as a senior manager with KPMG before moving into industry.

Matthew Gollat

Vice-President, Business Development

Matthew Gollat has worked in various capacities with increasing responsibility at Premier since 2008 and currently works on various business development related activities for the Company.

Matt has worked on several initiatives within Premier including its financings, the creation of, development and spin-out of Premier Royalty Corporation, as well as key transactions by the Company including the Trans-Canada Property joint venture, the South Arturo acquisition and Mercedes Mine acquisition and transitions.

Mr. Gollat holds an Honours Bachelor of Commerce degree from Lakehead University and completed the Certificate in Mining Studies Program through the University of British Columbia.

Shaun Drake

Corporate Secretary

Shaun Drake is the President of DRAX Services Limited, a firm providing dedicated corporate secretarial services to reporting issuers. Since 2000, Shaun has delivered corporate secretarial services using his experience to provide effective and practical solutions to clients’ continuous disclosure requirements. Prior to that, Shaun worked in the global trust services industry for fourteen years in Guernsey, Channel Islands and Portugal, and provided corporate services to a private bank. He is an Associate (ACIS) of the Institute of Chartered Secretaries and Administrators (ICSA). Shaun also acts as Corporate Secretary to various companies listed on the Toronto Stock Exchange (TSX) and the TSX Venture Exchange.



Wolfden Resources Inc. enters the Red Lake Mining Camp by commencing the first of a series of future transactions which will establish one of Premier's three cornerstone district plays in the Company today.


Wolfden Resources Inc. receives the 2003 PDAC Bill Dennis Prospector of the Year award for the discovery of the West Zone at the High Lake Project in Nunavut.


Premier Gold Mines Limited spun out from Wolfden as a "gold only" exploration company with assets in Northwestern Ontario.


Premier and Goldcorp agree to form the Rahill-Bonanza Joint Venture, which lies at the centre of the main Mine Trend, which has produced or discovered nearly 30 million ounces of gold since 1945.
