Mr. Vitton is former Executive Managing Director, Head, US Equity Sales, Bank of Montreal Capital Markets (BMO Capital Markets). As BMO’s Head of US Equity Sales, he originated and placed more than USD $200 billion through public and secondary offerings and M&A transactions until his departure from BMO in 2009. Prior to BMO, Mike was engaged as Managing Director at Burns Fry Ltd., between June 1984 and June 1994.
Mr. Vitton, through Burns Fry Ltd. and BMO Capital Markets, has acted as seed investor, lead/co‑lead underwriter or in a M&A capacity in some of the most important deals in the metal resource sector including: African Platinum Mines, Arequipa Resources, Bema Gold, Comaplex Resources, Diamond Fields Resources, Detour Gold, Dickinson Gold Mines, Echo Bay Mines, FMC Gold(Meridian Resources), Francisco Gold, Franco Nevada, Gammon Gold, Getchell Gold, Golden Shamrock, Guinor Gold, Hemlo Gold, Ivanhoe Mines, Meridian Gold, MexGold Resources, Minefinders, Moto Goldmines, Osisko Mining, Peru Copper, Wheaton River (Goldcorp), Randgold, Semafo, Sino Gold, TVX Gold, Uramin Resources, Urasia Resources, Yamana Resources and many others.
Mike was also the co-founder and former director of MMX Mineracao e Metalicos SA (Brazil) and LLX Logistica SA (Brazil). MMX sold Minas Rio and Amapa assets to Anglo American Corporation for USD $5.5 billion in cash in December 2008, returning USD $8.8 billion in cash or stock distributions to MMX IPO shareholders, offering six times return from IPO after only two years. Additionally, he was co-founder of Petro Rio, a publicly traded Brazilian oil and gas company and Manabi SA, a private Brazilian iron ore company.
Recently, Mr. Vitton acted as seed investor and capital markets advisor from inception to Newmarket Gold, sold to Kirkland Lake for CAD $1 billion, combining to form a CAD $2.4 billion company. He serves as capital markets advisor to ASX Gold Road Resources, previously raising AUD $57 million of AUD $74 million in a back stopped rights issue, prior to Goldfields 50% joint venture participation of AUD $350 million, cited as Australian 2017 Deal of the Year. Mike is a founding partner of M2‑Advisors and Partner and member of P5 Infrastructure, operating in partnership with EQT Infrastructure/CMA CGM, where EQT Infrastructure/P5 Infrastructure acquired 90% of Global Gateway South(GGS) Terminal, a deep sea terminal in Long Beach Harbor, CA.
Mr. Vitton is a Graduate (1980) of the University of Michigan Business School; former Seat Holder, NYSE; and former President, New York Society of Metals Analysts.
